1st Workshop on the Digital Vectorization of Historical Seismograms

2nd circular - August 31st, 2005

Dear Participants,
We are tying up the preparation for the workshop and in order to optimize the resources we would like to make a few communications about SW and HW that we expect you to bring to the WS.

Operating System:
For windows, we have tested the teseo2 plugin under both XP and windows 2000 and we strongly recommend to bring your lap tops with either one of the two installed.

For Mac OSX: we have tested the plugin under the latest release (10.4)

For Linux: any Linux should be compatible with the teseo2 plugin.

Software:
you should install on your lap top GIMP 2.2.6 version. Please see www.gimp.org for details on the installation. We expect all participants to have this software installed on their machines before coming to the workshop and possibly by the 9th of September. We will in fact release a Beta version of the plug in on September 12 and we strongly encourage all of you to install it and try before coming to the WS.

Hardware:
You should have Pentium 4 or equivalent MD processor machines. At least 512 Mbytes of RAM are recommended although smaller RAMs should be OK but large size raster images files will be difficult to process. All laptops should have RJ45 Ethernet port connection because we will rely on a local network. If you do not have available HW of this kind please let us know that we will arrange to have some desk top to be used during the exercises.

Finally, we have been preparing the workshop web page (http:// sismos.rm.ingv.it/teseo/) and all the circulars can be found on this site as well as info on the pluggin and the gimp.
